P.L. James started his architectural practise, frequently collaborating with Francis Rattenbury, Hubert Savage and his brother Douglas as James and James Architects.

Notable commissions include:

The former CPR Building / Steamship Terminal on the Inner Harbour and now the home of the Robert Bateman gallery, and

The former Post Office on Government at Yates, recently renamed P.L. James Place in his honour.

Robert Siddall continued their practise and, with his partners James Polson and Donald Dennis, produced projects such as:

The Ministry of Health Building on Blanshard, and

The McPherson Library at The University of Victoria

1970

David Warner joined the firm, which flourished as Siddall Dennis Warner, and later as SDW Architecture.

Recognizable projects include:

University of Victoria's Student Union Building expansion

The Office Tower at 747 Fort Street, and

Most of the townhouses in Broadmead.

1996

Tony James joined David upon his retirement and continued the firm as Warner James Architects, with a new partner, Brian Lord. Some of our projects include:

The Mearns Learning Centre at the University of Victoria,

Island Medical School additions to the Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals, and

Long Beach Lodge in Tofino

Warner James Architects joined forces with KMP Architecture, whose principals, Brian Kapuscinski and John Pettigrew, contribute new and fresh input to the latest iteration of our architectural continuum. Renamed KPL James Architecture

Recent projects include:

Buildings for Shell Canada and the BC Oil & Gas Commission,

A $4.5 million upgrade to the University Centre's Food Service facility at UVic, renamed Mystic Market,

Hospital renovations in Victoria, Duncan and Nanaimo, and

Multi-unit residential projects in Victoria, Saanich, Central Saanich, Sidney and Duncan.

TODAY

In 2020, with new partners Jeremy Beintema and Wil Wiens on board, the company renames itself Continuum and looks forward with great anticipation to another 110 years continuing our architectural contribution to Greater Victoria and beyond.
